Indiana
I've never been to Indiana (ok I drove nonstop through the state on Interstate 80 in 1993), but some friendly Hoosiers insisted that I needed some pennies from there.
"Indianapolis Motor Speedway" with winged tire and flags. Robert Davis of Indianpolis sent me this one and the next 4 in may of 2001. He said he was disappointed in my collection because I didn't have anything from Indiana. Thanks for fixing it, Robert!
Robert writes, "Indy Racing Northern Light Series The logo for the IRL racing series. Northern Light sponsors the league." I don't know what IRL stands for. on second thought, I guess it stands for Indy Racing League? Duh.
"85' Indy 500 - May 27, 2001" Helio Castroneves won it. I think this is a really good looking penny.
"Formula One - United States Grand Prix September 24, 2000" I don't know who won, I got tired of looking stuff up. Robert said that when he got this penny at the speedway he was hoping to watch some practice for the Indy 500, but the practice got rained out. Sounds like the kind of thing that happens to me.
"Brickyard 400" Robert says this one took place August 5, 2000. I'm not much of a racing fan, so I don't really know what the differences between these races are. Heck I don't even know if they all take place in Indianapolis. I should do some research on the Indy 500 website. Anyway, thanks a lot for all the pennies Robert!
