FLYNN'S Guide to San Francisco's Neighborhood Bars

Daddy Paul's
2276 Chestnut
Marina

On a rainy Wednesday, after our intrepid Flynn's review team had pooh-poohed the Horseshoe down the street as too bourgeois. We stepped from the storm into this old Chestnut Street favorite.

Daddy Paul's is the last old time neighborhood bar on Chestnut. It's a real hole in the wall, 60's style. Even so, it's gone through a few changes since the Flynn's gang used to hang out there a few years ago. The old men who used to line the bar have been replaced with women, tough women. They were civil, but clearly we were interlopers from some distant Daddy Paul past.

Some things remain the same at Daddy Paul's: no draft beer, there is a fine selection of domestic bottles plus Guinness Pub Draft Stout in a can; a perfectly fine although tilted (they way we like it) pool table; and the "Bachelors" and "Bachelorettes" above the rest room doors (although a woman came out of the "Bachelors" when we tried to go).

Flynn says one jigger.
